The Woodlands to Host Newest Chapter of U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce

The U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce is announcing its newest chapter will soon open in The Woodlands.

Mexico has long been a natural trading and investment partner for Houston. So much so, says former Continental Airlines vice president Pete Garcia, that there’s seemed little need for a chamber of commerce dedicated to that bilateral relationship alone.

“Something like six million jobs in the U.S. are directly attributed to trade with Mexico. Now we need to make sure that we’re generating as many of those jobs as we can here in our region.”

Garcia is the first executive director for The Woodlands-Gulf Coast Chapter of the US Mexico Chamber of Commerce. He says his main goal will be to promote such job creation by helping Gulf Coast businesses find partners south of the border.

Up to now, all of the chamber’s operations in Texas have been handled out of its Southwest chapter in Dallas. The Woodlands-Gulf Coast office will cover all of South Texas, from Houston to the Rio Grande Valley, as well as stretching eastward across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

The new chapter will officially launch operations on January 18th.
