City Of Houston Getting In The Holiday Spirit

Showers moved the announcement away from the city's official Christmas Tree, a 67 foot White Fir holiday tree at Hermann Square, to the rotunda inside Houston City Hall.
But the trappings of the annual holiday event on December 2nd followed. There was the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Ginger Bread Man and the Snow Man, and Santa Claus himself.
Bob Eury is with the Downtown District. He talks about some of the events leading up to the Mayor's Holiday Celebration:
"We have another great season of theater and stage holiday classics. Houston Ballet's 'Nutcracker,' Alley Theater's 'A Christmas Carol,' and the 'Santaland Diaries,' TUT's 'A White Christmas,' and the Houston Symphony's 'Very Merry Pops,' plus Ice Skating at St. Joseph Medical Center's 'Ice at Discovery Green.'"
There's also breakfast with Santa at the Aquarium.
It all kicks off this Thursday morning with the 62nd holiday parade through downtown Houston. Mayor Annise Parker says the next six weeks the city celebrates the winter holidays in a tradition that goes back some 92 years.
"We're creating new ones as part of this event. And we're so happy to have Santa here a little bit early. The weather's not quite right yet, probably a little warm. But hopefully by next week on the 2nd when we kick everything off, the weather will be a little more — a little crisp and dry and we'll have a good holiday celebration."
