The Billings Gazette is reporting attorney Cliff Edwards filed a class-action lawsuit Tuesday in District Court in Billings on behalf of eight landowners. The landowners are seeking unspecified damages for long-term harm to their land and businesses due to the oil spill.

In addition to Houston’s Exxon Pipeline Company, the lawsuit also names parent ExxonMobil Corporation, along with Billings refinery manager Jon Wetmore and pipeline terminal superintendent Jason Montgomery.

Dale Getz, a community relations adviser for ExxonMobil in Billings, says the company doesn’t comment on pending litigation. But he says the cleanup will continue until the work is done.

A pipeline break under the bed of the Yellowstone on July 1st spilled roughly a thousand barrels of crude oil into the river. The river rose above flood stage a few days later.
