The releases involved Shell's Deer Park plant.
Harris County says 8 tons of pollutants were released into the air, but the emissions weren't reported to the County as the law requires. Shell hasn't admitted fault, but the company did agree to pay the County a half a million dollars that will go into the general fund.
Rock Owens is with the County Attorney's office.
"The law requires they report the release of dangerous chemicals. These aren't just any old thing and the amounts have to be significant before they have to report and that's what we want to be able to tell the public. What it is and
based on our knowledge of what it is, we want to be able to tell people what the appropriate thing to do is if they call us."
Shell did alert state agencies about the releases. Harris County and Shell were able to resolve the issue without the County filing a lawsuit.
