Menil Collection - Ancestors of the Lake

Curator Virginia Lee Webb talks about the exhibition, Ancestors of the Lake: Art of Lake Sentani and Humboldt Bay, New Guinea, now at the Menil Collection. Gathered during a period of research in that region in the 1920s, the carved wooden figures and painted fabric panels by native artists inspired Surrealist artists and caught the attention of collectors, including Houston's John and Dominique de Menil.

Bob Stevenson chats with curator Virginia Lee Webb.
