Area residents will get a chance to learn more about the impact of light rail from a number of METRO officials who will be on hand for the meeting. Stacie Walker is Missouri City's Public Information Manager. She says an important part of the meeting will center on the Environmental Impact Statement that's being developed.
"And the meetings going to provide an overview of the plan and provide an environmental, economical and community issues that need to be addressed in the E-I-S, and I think this is critical for area residents to hear again, how this project would impact their community."
Walker says while most people are still trying to learn more about the project and have not yet made up their minds about it, the extension of commuter rail will have benefits.
"Transportation the Texas Medical Center in less than 30-minutes, regular train rides every 12-minutes and also direct connection to downtown Houston jobs and recreation venues."
She says it will also save residents money because it will cost less to take the train than to drive and pay for parking.
The meeting begins at 6 tonight at the Missouri City Community Center. For more information, visit METRO's US 90A/Southwest Rail Corridor Web page.
