Pearland One Away From Championship Game

The boys from Pearland are back in action tonight in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The little leaguers have won their first two Little League World Series games surprisingly easy and are just one game away from making it to the National Championship game. Bill Stamps has a preview.
Millions of kids all over the country dream of playing in the Little League World Series. But only a few actually get to do it each year. The team from Pearland is living that dream and having the time of their lives. Little League President Vince Gabino has seen it for himself.

"If they walk out of that grove, they are hit with autograph requests. They are hit upon by teenage girls that are there and making all kinds of noises and giggling and such. Adults with walk up to kids asking for autographs to have them sign their shirts and caps. The kids are great about that."

Gabino says the scene in Williamsport is nothing like he’s ever seen.

"Being there and the atmosphere is 100 times better than I could’ve imagined. Being at the place during the day and all the people and just walking up from the backdrop and the parking lot you get the mountains in the backdrop. It’s an amazing site. Daytime games are great, but nighttimes games are like a dream."

The team has made a lot of people back in the Houston area very proud. There’s already talk of holding a parade for the boys whether or not they make it into that final game.

"The city wanted to do a parade for the kids on the Tuesday. The problem that we have with that and what we’re still discussing with them is the fact that these kids have missed a week of school."

As for players, they’ve got other things on their minds. After all, it's not every year you get to go to the world series, just ask the Astros. Bill Stamps KUHF News.
