Attorney: Video Only Part Of The Problem

With her attorney present, science teacher Sheri Lynn Davis told reporters she's "without excuse" for her attack on Isaiah Reagins at Jamie's House Charter School in north Houston.
"I apologize for the pains that the result of this situation has brought us to. I apologize for this particular incident, and I am very regretful and sorry that this incident has ever occurred."
Davis was fired after the recording of the April 29th beating became public. Reagins' mother has filed a lawsuit against the teacher and the alternative school. Chip Lewis is Davis' attorney. He says the suit might be a blessing in disguise.
"What's gonna come to light and what I think the civil suit that the Reagins has filed will shed light upon, is how Sheri is placed in a situation where she is not only an educator, but now she's a bouncer, she's (an) enforcement officer, and it's not just Sheri. It's all these other teachers that are calling me and coming forward saying, 'Mr. Lewis, you've got to understand. Sheri was a prized teacher and loved. She's never been involved in something like this before, and while we don't condone her actions, we understand why it happened'."
While he wouldn't give specifics, Lewis says he and his client are cooperating with authorities investigating the case. He adds the civil lawsuit filed by the boy's family will hopefully uncover and address the real impetus of how the incident happened. The school has said it handled the situation appropriately after learning of it.
