Vehicle Registrations Available at AAA

Most people these days renew their registration online. But if you like to do things old school — or if you've waited
a bit too long and your registration has expired — you'll need to renew your tags in person.
Harris County already has contracts in place with more than 200 grocery stores for registration renewals. And they've now added five AAA branches ranging from the Copperfield area to Champions and the Galleria. Harris County Tax Assesor Leo Vasquez says the partnership is about convenience.
"As you know right now in government we're having some budget difficulties, you might say. And with these tighter budgets we need to find ways to do more with less and this partnership with AAA Texas is an example of that. It's a win-win situation. We can send more folks out here into the private sector to do some of these jobs that the government has traditionally been doing."
Vasquez says the tax office isn't cutting jobs — but as people retire or move out of positions in the registration department they won't be replaced. Instead, more of that work will be done at these outside offices or online. Anyone can renew their registration at the five AAA locations. The renewals are free for AAA members and cost $1 for non-members.
