Mayor Parker did not mince words as she welcomed the five new members to the transit agency's governing board.
"Literally, the future is in your hands. What this city looks like, how this city moves, is in your hands."
The new members include two attorneys, two engineers, and a finance professional. Gilbert Garcia, a partner at a private equity management firm, will serve as chairman. In his new role, Garcia thanked outgoing chairman David Wolff.
"Let me just say, you have served this community with dignity, with grace; and I'm so grateful you've reached out to me, to mentor me and handed off this chairmanship position."
METRO has been facing several public challenges of late, from questions over funding of the light rail lines, to bus and train collisions, to allegations that the agency improperly shredded documents. Mayor Parker has tasked the new Board with regaining the public's trust before making changes to how this city moves.
