Charissa Powell was shot and killed in the parking lot of her apartment complex in north Houston during an attempted carjacking Sunday. Police Lt. Ron Walker is leading the investigation.
"Everything that we're getting from the people who live out there, I think they're really trying to help us, but there's someone out there who is going to know precisely who is involved in this, what it's all about and that's who we're looking for. That's who were asking help from out there to have those people give us a call and tell us what it is that you know."
Walker says police are looking for two suspects. The shooter used an AK-47 to five several rounds into the car Powell was in. Her 1-year-old brother was hit with a bullet fragment, but survived. Police have released a composite sketch of the shooter. Crime stoppers is offering a $5000 reward in the case. This is Amy Smith:
"If you're afraid of the suspect or if you're afraid for any reason to call the police, that's what Crime stoppers is for. There is up to a $5000 reward in this case, so anyone who has any information that can help the police, that can help bring justice to Charissa and her family, then please give us a call."
Police say they doubt the gunman meant to shoot and kill the 3-year-old victim and think the shooter instead wanted the rims of the car Powell was in.
