Kid Invasion at the Rodeo

It's day three of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo at Reliant Park. Country Music Star Kenny Chesney will take the stage in a few hours. Earlier today the Rodeo looked more like Disneyland…with all the kids roaming around. Bill Stamps stopped by and has this story.
(sound of rodeo announcer).

When you walk into Reliant Arena there's a huge television screen showing rodeo highlights. Normally there might be a crowd gathered around the screen, but not at one in the afternoon.

Ms. Torres first graders from Kippsharp AcademyAs you look around all you see and hear are excited and energetic kids. Many were on school field trips like Ms. Torres first graders from Kippsharp Academy we just got here actually. We just came from seeing them judging the cows.

I asked four of her students what animals they'd seen.

"Pigs."

"Goats."

"Pigs Racing."

"How many do you see here, one or two?" (kids scream two)

Everywhere you looked there were parents pushing strollers. Sabrina Shusky brought her little boy who was sitting in the stroller…head hunched over asleep. I asked her what brought them out to the rodeo.

"Oh a lot of fun a lot of animals and exhausting him."

little girl looking at a lambBill: "Get him tired right?"

"That's right."

Bill: "What has he seen?"

"Cows. That's his favorite thing in the world right now."

Tracy Mayor brought her two daughters: one was in a stroller, the other was big enough to walk. Even though the carnival is open, they also came to see the animals.

"The Brahma bulls the rabbits, just about everything."

Bill: "So its almost like going to the zoo right. Yes, but fun. It smells worse."

As you look around its obvious it doesn't take a lot to get kids excited. Some were ohhing and ahhing over the coin operated massage machines in the concourse… and then there was this guy who was in a costume and standing on stilts.

Guy on Stilts"Let me hear you say howdie."

"Howdy."

"Say go rodeo."

"Go rodeo.

"Say go Texas..."
