New Poll Finds Medina Closing on Hutchison GOP Race

The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling and was not commissioned by any of the candidates. Dean Debnam runs the company and says that Medina is surging. If the trend continues she could end up in a run-off with Governor Rick Perry.
"Right now Hutchison has a small lead over Medina, but it's a very small lead and so it's within the margin of error. Perry's clearly in the lead."
The Public Policy Polling numbers have Perry with 39% support of likely Republican voters, Hutchison with 28% and Medina with 24%.
Ideologically, Perry has 42% of those who call themselves conservative. Medina has 25% from the same group and Hutchison as 23%.
Debnam says one problem for Hutchison is that the survey found that Texas Republicans favor Austin over Washington for solving problems 78% to 3%.
"If you don't like what's going on in Washington then you don't like Kay Hutchison but you do like Medina."
The news is not all good for Perry though, since support for both Medina and Hutchison totals more then he has with both conservatives and likely voters.
The poll is clear cut, at this point, on the Democratic side with Bill White getting 49% from likely Democratic voters to Farouk Shami's 19%.
The poll was conducted From February 4th through the 7th.
