Today we look forward to our annual visit by The Invincible Czars! It's become a "holiday tradition," not only in Houston, but here on the show to have the lovable, quirky band from Austin performs its unique rock-polka-klezmer-Gypsy-and-heavy-metal take on Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, live for us...
Jeannette Clift George, the founding Artistic Director of Houston's A. D. Players, is also the author of the company's frequently-revived holiday offering, O Little Town of Bagels, Teacakes and Hamburger Buns. Lee Walker directed the 2009 production, which has evening performances, Wednesdays through Saturdays, and Sunday matinees from now through New Year's Eve. George and Walker chat about the production with KUHF's Catherine Lu. Listen Download  Extended Interview

Our producer, Bob Stevenson, speaks with Houston visual artist Tierney Malone in the gallery at DiverseWorks, where Mister Malone's most recent paintings and his first-ever videos are on view through December 19th in the exhibition, Third Ward Is My HarlemListen Download

The Invincible Czars will perform their totally unprecedented version of The Nutcracker Suite twice this week in downtown Houston. They'll be part of the festivities tomorrow from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at the 22nd annual Wortham Theater Center Tree-Lighting Ceremony, presented by Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and the City of Houston. And then The Czars re-emerge out of the post-Thanksgiving mist to play The Nutcracker again, Saturday evening at 7:30PM on-stage at Discovery Green Park. The band gathered in KUHF's Geary Performance Studio for their anual TFR visit which was hosted by KUHF's St. John Flynn. Listen Download
