KUHF/Houston Public Radio inaugurates its year-long series of special events in observance of the station's 60th Anniversary with a recital of contemporary American music for winds and strings, performed by the KUHF Chamber Ensemble. The 7:00PM concert is preceded by a reception which begins at 6:00 this evening at the Menil Collection. KUHF's Chris Johnson and Victor Kendall, along with other members of the ensemble gather in KUHF's Geary Performance Studio for a preview session hosted by St. John Flynn. Listen Download

Composer Eitan Steinberg and his wife, singer Etty Ben-Zaken, are Shusterman Visiting Israeli Artists- in-Residence this Fall at the Jewish Community Center of Houston.  By popular demand, they offer an encore presentation of their concert, A Human Prayer.  The program features two of Mr. Steinberg's works for voice and string quartet: Rava Deravin and Stabat Mater – A Human Prayer.  Houston Symphony musicians – violinists Rodica Oancea-Gonzales and Mihaela Oancea-Frusina … violinist Linda Goldstein … and cellist Jeffrey Butler – will accompany Ms. Ben-Zaken's vocals, as well as perform a movement from Franz Schubert's Death and the Maiden String Quartet.  The concert is tonight at 7:00PM at the Rothko Chapel. KUHF's Bob Stevenson spoke with art historians Suzanne May and her husband, Alex Kidson, Special Projects Fellow at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London, and Consulting Curator at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Experts on the life and art of the late 18th Century British portrait painter, George Romney, they delivered this year's Rienzi Lecture at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston's European Decorative Arts Center, the house museum known as Rienzi in River Oaks. May and Kidson chat with KUHF's Bob Stevenson about the artist and about the lecture.
