Locke Sets His Sight on Run-off

Former city attorney Gene Locke is gearing up for the run-off, saying he's going to stay focused on the issues. Ed Mayberry reports.

Although he's worked behind the scenes in city government and with METRO, Houston Community College, the Sports Authority and the Port Commission, Gene Locke is actually running for a political office for his first time.  Coming in second with 25 per cent behind Annise Parker's 31 per cent, Locke says he's not changing tactics for the mayoral run-off.

"This is the fifth quarter of a five-quarter football game.  And so we go into the fifth quarter with momentum.  We go into the fifth quarter with a game plan, to reach out to Houstonians to get them to come back to the polls one more time.  And the best way to do that is to talk to people about issues that they're concerned about."

Locke says every day for the next 30 days, he's going to be talking about public safety, growing the economy and creating jobs, restoring neighborhoods and making sure Houston has a great transportation system.
