We meet the grandson of legendary French artist, Henri Matisse -- Pierre Henri Matisse, whose latest works, in a style he inherited from his grandfather, are currently on view at the Off the Wall Gallery at the Houston Galleria...we also chat with Director Blake Wilkins about, and listen to excerpts from, the latest CD Release from his Moores School Percussian Ensemble...
KUHF's Bob Stevenson heads over to the Off The Wall Gallery at the Houston Galleria,  to chat with visual artist, Pierre Henri Matisse, grandson of the 20th Century French master, Henri Matisse. An exhibition of Pierre Matisse's mixed-media paintings, drawings, and cut-paper collages is on view at the gallery through this Sunday only. Monsieur Matisse will make two special appearances … tomorrow evening from 6:00-8:00PM, and Sunday afternoon from 1:00-3:00PM,  to greet visitors, and to create three original pastels on the spot in honor of the warm welcome that he has received from Houston and its people. Blake Wilkins is Director of the Percussion Ensemble at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music. His U-H faculty colleague, Rob Smith, is an Associate Professor of Composition. They speak with KUHF's Chris Johnson about the Percussion Ensemble's new Compact-Disc, Not Here, But There. It's on the Albany label, and available at Joel's Classical Shop and from various on-line music services. Sheri Johnson is Vice President for the Southwest Region of the Broadway Across America Series, the company that brings national tours of current and recent Broadway shows into Houston's Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Johnson speaks with KUHF's Bob Stevenson.  The Broadway Across America Series is one of the nine performing-arts organizations, that, in association with the Houston Downtown Alliance, present the city's annual Theater District Open House on Sunday August 30th.
