Today, two-thirds of the faculty-artists from this year's American Festival for the Arts gather in KUHF's George Geary Performance Studio to play music of Samuel Barber … previewing the concert they and the high-school aged musicians of the 2009 A-F-A Conservatory Orchestra will give tonight at the Wortham Center...
Composer Michael Remson is the Executive and Artistic Director of Houston's American Festival for the Arts Summer Music Conservatory for middle and high-school-aged musicians. Brad Smith is the Music Director and Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and contemporary-music group at the University of Pennsylvania, and Music Director of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra near Philadelphia. Mr. Smith conducts the AFA Faculty Chamber Orchestra when it performs all of Samuel Barber's Capricorn Concerto, plus Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question … and Laura Jackson conducts the young musicians of the A-F-A Conservatory Orchestra in works by Copland, Bizet and Tchaikovsky, when the two A-F-A ensembles present a joint concert, this evening at 7:00PM in the Cullen Theater of downtown Houston's Wortham Center. The AFA Faculty Chamebr Orchestra gathers in KUHF's Geary Performance Studio for a preview hosted by KUHF's St. John Flynn. Listen. Download.
