by: Rod Rice, June 1, 2009 9:06:29 pm
Crime Stoppers Executive Director Katherine Cabaniss says the text number is "crimes" that's 2-7-4-6-3-7. You begin the message with "tip610".
"That's t-i-p-6-10. You then put the content of your report , whether it's the location of a wanted felon, the identity of a person whose committed a crime, or any other criminal activity that you want to report to Crime Stoppers."
The reply from Crime Stoppers will begin with a code number.
"That will be your link to the information that you've reported."
Cabaniss says just like calling 713-222-tips, your information will be strictly confidential. No one will know your identity.
"We won't have a record of your cell phone number. We won't have a record of an e-mail address or other address that it comes from. You will receive your code number and that's your link to the information."
The reply text to your tip will also remind you to delete your message and to text "stop" to end replies.
In addition to phoning and texting you can also report information at the Crime Stoppers website "crime-dash-stoppers-dot-org.
No matter which method you use you'll remain anonymous and if the information leads to an identification, arrest or charges, you could get up to a five-thousand-dollar reward.
