Today, we preview the brand-new opera, Brief Encounter, by Grammy and Academy-Award-winning composer, pianist and conductor, André Previn. It opens tomorrow night at the Wortham Center, where it's being presented by Houston Grand Opera, and we speak with The Man Himself – André Previn – along with librettist and director, John Caird … soprano Elizabeth Futral … and baritone Nathan Gunn … each of them sharing their particular insights on this World Première production, based on a play and film scripted by Noel Coward. …
KUHF's St. John Flynn speaks by with composer, conductor and pianist, André Previn, about his new opera, Brief Encounter, based on a play and a 1945 movie, both scripted by Noël Coward. Joining them were three other members of the creative team: Tony-Award-winner John Caird, who fashioned the work's libretto and is stage-directing the Houston Grand Opera World Première production and, the opera's two stars, soprano Elizabeth Futral and baritone, Nathan Gunn. Listen. The University of Houston's Moores School of Music presents A Defiant Requiem, a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's setting of the Requiem Mass, accompanied by video of and commentary by prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp, Terezin, where inmates performed the Verdi Requiem sixteen times during their period of captivity in World War Two. Maestro Murray Sidlin, who created this unique multi-media program, guest-conducts the Moores School Concert Chorale, Concert Women's Chorus, University Men's and Women's Choruses, and Symphony Orchestra.
