Crime Stoppers Move to Cable

Regardless of who your cable provider is, you probably have more channels than you could ever watch. Add one more to that list. But this newest program is only on Comcast, and its only purpose it to put criminals behind bars. Bill Stamps has details.

Just about everyone has seen the TV show Cops before. People like it because it's real life and police almost always catch the bad guy.

Well now, Comcast cable is offering a new channel where people get to watch and hear about real crimes, but this time they get to turn in the bad guy themselves.

(Police Blotter sound)

That what it sounds like. It's almost like another show…America's Most Wanted.  In fact you could call it Houston's most wanted…since all of the suspects are wanted for crimes committed in Houston. Sheriff-elect Adrian Garcia says everyone can get involved.

"You don't need a badge or a gun to fight crime, you just need to know how to work your remote. And most people know how to do that nowadays."

Remember the Houston woman who was stabbed and killed because she refused to give up her car to a hijacker because child was inside. You'll find a picture and information about her alleged killer right now on Comcast cable. His name is Tim Mateo Rios.

(Police Blotter sound)

The channel is called Police Blotter. It's put on by Crimes Stoppers and you can watch it by clicking the ON demand button on your remote, or by going to channel 1. Police Blotter has been tried in other cities and law enforcement officers say it does work. Ray Purcer works for Comcast.
"As fugitives are captured, what we find is that it creates more awareness and even more people looking at the profiles ,and so it's just begun to snowball to a point that we've seen as many as one per week."

Police Blotter can be found on channel one for all Comcast cable subscribers. The suspects pictures and information is all there. The only thing you won't find…is a popular theme song.
