Vampires Lurking in Your Home

This Halloween there may be something far more scary than ghosts and ghouls in your home. The average house is filled with benign-looking, but life-sucking vampires. Laurie Johnson has more.
Vampire electronics...creatures of the night.... lying in wait.

Lisa Dornan, with Houston-based Direct Energy, says they're all over your house and you may not even realize it.

"Vampire electronics are actually the appliances and devices that are in your house that you don't realize are actually sucking electricity, even when they're turned off or in standby mode."

Well that doesn't sound so bad.

I mean it's not like we're talking the stuff of horror movies here.

"The average home is actually, over the course of a year, one whole electricity bill is going to these vampire electronics."

Computers, monitors, cell phone chargers, mp3 players, the coffee pot, the microwave, the dvd player, the TV, the dishwasher...all vampires lurking in the sanctity of your home.

But no garlic or wooden stakes are necessary to neutralize the energy-sucking undead. Go ahead...pull the plug!
