The
Webster Trio is one of the ensembles-in residence at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. The group’s pianist is
Robert Moeling, and the two wind players,
Leone Buyse, flute, and
Michael Webster, clarinet, are a married couple. As a twentieth wedding anniversary gift to each other and in celebration of the Trio’s twentieth anniversary season, Mister Webster and Miss Buyse commissioned Manhattan School of Music composer, Robert Sirota, to write a new piece for them. The Trio presented the world premiere of the work,
Birds of Paradise, at the annual convention of the National Flute Association, last month in Kansas City, and the Texas premiere, part of the Webster Trio’s concert.
