Hearing on Katy Managed HOV Lanes

The Toll Road Authority is in the process of replacing the one reversible Katy HOV lane with four lanes, two going each way 24 hours a day. The lanes will become toll roads next year, and users will need to get an EZ Tag and register with the toll road authority. The two agencies have held four public meetings so far, and Transportation Planner Pat Waskowiak says they've learned a lot from them.
"People had no understanding about managed lanes— what it meant. People who use transit, who take the bus or are in car pools or van pools were very concerned about how this might affect their ability to use that mode of transportation. So, I think there was a lot of concern and confusion."
The proposed changes will be presented soon to Harris County Commissioners Court, which has the final say on them. Meanwhile, the final public meeting is tonight at the Houston Public Library Branch in the Heights at 1302 Heights Blvd.
